Educational Philosophy
Philosophy
My philosophy on education in essence is where individualized attention meets structure. I believe this balance stems from my experience in teaching both special education and martial arts.
While teaching special education classes, I found that children with a learning handicapping condition advanced most successfully with a highly individualized approach. My students learned at an exponential rate when I viewed each of them uniquely, and taught them in individual ways. In martial arts education, I learned the importance of a structured environment for achievement, where curriculum is based on an exact standard and discipline is a requirement (for each student).
This pedagogy of special education and martial arts education should be applied in all education; the intersection between an individualized approach and highly structured environment.
This ties into vocal teaching in that all my students come to me with specific challenges and necessities that I mean to address and work through. Together, we work on identifying as many of these as possible.
If you work with me, I will treat you as the individual that you are. And if you are willing to focus and work, you WILL grow.
BREATHING 101 TECHNIQUE
BENEFITS of NASAL BREATHING (for those who use their VOICE):
Consistency - mouth breathing has a lack of focus
Efficiency - it’s always the same function
Resonance - you focus your breathing to the points of resonance/nasal breathing
Range - focused and consistent resonance will expand your range
Relaxation - less likely to over breath and hyperventilate, which causes anxiety.
Filters - natural in the nasal passages, assisting the prevention of sore throats, and dry throat syndrome.
Anti Swelling - at times of over-singing, a quicker recovery
Vagus Nerve/Vagal Function - when done in rhythm activates the function that reduces and even eliminates stress.
ALLEVIATING ANXIETY WORKSHOPS

NASAL BREATHING: 100% through the nose.
